The Kolsai Lakes are the ‘pearls of the Northern Tien Shan’ — three mountain lakes strung along one valley between steep spruce slopes. The first lake sits at around 1,800 metres, reached by a scenic dirt road; the second and third, higher up, are reached only on foot or horseback. The water shifts from emerald to deep blue with the light and the season. We bring guests to the first lake in a purpose-built 4x4, show the best photo spots and sunrise over the water. The season is May to October, and the window is short. Kolsai and neighbouring Kaindy Lake are the classic two-day jeep-tour pairing. This is a border zone: your original passport is required.
